We are a mother and daughter who love authentic, handmade Icelandic wool goods. Our handcrafted one-of-a-kind sweaters come directly from a small knitting circle in south Iceland.

  • I LOVE that Kosi Wool goods are authentic, unique, made from a sustainable resource, and supportive of artisan women. I prefer to be outside and am cold-natured. My "Sunflower" sweater is my cold weather go-to, keeps me comfortable, and is excellent for all kinds of outdoor fun!

  • -Christina J, outdoorsy and a small business owner
  • My Icelandic sweater is not only one if the most beautifully crafted sweaters I have ever seen, but the most comfortable sweater I own. Knowing who made it makes it more personal than any garment I own.

  • -Bill H, owner of The Music Tree
  • What a perfect sweater for apple picking on a fall day!  Although it was drizzling, the sweater kept me warm and dry.  Natural fibers allow your body to breath in the fall air.

  • -Kimberly P in "Dynjandi," her 2nd Icelandic sweater
  • I happily noted this morning's cold temperatures and grabbed my "Thanksgiving" sweater. I love the happy yellow color and cozy warmth. Great way to start the day!

  • -Katie M, small business owner
  • I just love my authentic Icelandic wool sweater. My husband farms and I help him at our local farmer’s market. It is very cold in the morning, but this sweater is enough to keep me warm. As the weather warms up, my sweater seems to adjust and keeps me perfectly comfortable. So much better then the “high tech” clothing I used to wear!

The Craftsmen

Vilborg

Vilborg is the ringleader of the Kosi Wool knitting circle.  She lives on a farm near two tourist destinations, Geysir and the massive, multi-tiered Gulfoss waterfall.  This brings many visitors to her shop, which was formerly the horse barn's tack room.  She sells her sweaters and those of her friends and neighbors.

Gudron

A librarian at Iceland's agricultural university, Gudron lives on the farm directly behind Vilborg's.  Gudron prides herself on shaping her sweaters to truly fit her customers.  She's always looking for a challenge, seeking out new patterns and juxtaposing colors in new and interesting ways.

Asa Maria

Asa Maria knits sweaters, but crafting hats is her love.  After a long day leading tours on horseback, this equestrian and mother of five boys will knit one, two, or even three hats in a sitting.  Asa Maria personally paired a hat with each of our sweaters.

Elisabet

Elisabet works in a nursing home supporting Icelandic seniors.  She can sometimes find time to knit when it is quiet at work.  In this photo Elisabet is in a field of Lupine.  She's glad to have taught her two daughters to knit.

Kolbrun

Kolbrun--Kolla to friends--knitted her first sweater at 14 and has been knitting ever since.  She describes Icelandic wool as "warm and cosy."  She's excited to have recently learned she has siblings in America.

Olof

Olof lives in Selfoss, on Iceland's south coast.  She knits 1-ply sweaters, which are light and wearable in a wide array of climates.  These sweaters have more stitches and more rows of stitches than thicker sweaters--and take the longest to make.

Hrefna

Hrefna is 89 years old and nearly blind.  But her disability has not dampened her love of knitting.  She now knits just one age-old Icelandic pattern, which we call "Twirl."  Hrefna still knits every day, while listening to the radio.

Bryndis

Bryndis is 91 years old.  She was born in the countryside, but moved to Reykjavik at age 20.  She maintains a cottage in the countryside, not far from Vilborg's shop and the rest of the knitting circle.
